IETF draft document on Requirements for Multi AS VPN services
Nexagent has been working with Cisco Systems, France Telecom and other network equipment vendors and service providers in drafting requirements for standards that define key aspects of layer 3 VPN delivery. This draft was presented at IETF65 in Dallas in March. The IETF draft informational document complements RFC 4031 and defines requirements that are specific to the delivery of BGP/MPLS-based (RFC 4364) VPN services across multiple administrative domains. These requirements are independent of underlying technologies or the number of Autonomous Systems such VPNs may span. It lists the requirements of the different parties that are involved in the administration of these Autonomous Systems and may therefore be involved in the delivery of the VPN service offerings.

IETF document on an additional option for Multi-AS VPNs
Also presented at the IETF65 in March was a draft standard co-authored by Nexagent, Cisco, Tellabs and TeliaSonera. This document describes an additional option to the 'Multi-AS Backbones' section of RFC 4364. This option combines per VPN VRFs at the Autonomous System Border Router (ASBR) as described in 'Option A' with the redistribution of labelled VPN-IPv4 routes as described in 'Option B'. In addition, this option allows for a data plane consisting of two methods of traffic forwarding between attached ASBR pairs. The additional Multi-AS option is intended to address short-falls of existing Multi-AS VPN approaches described in RFC 4364.

IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
ITIL® (the IT Infrastructure Library) is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world. ITIL® provides a cohesive set of best practice, drawn from the public and private sectors internationally. It is supported by a comprehensive qualifications scheme, accredited training organisations, and implementation and assessment tools. The best practice processes promoted in ITIL® support and are supported by, the British Standards Institution's standard for IT service Management (BS15000).

Nexagent, like many other companies, considers the best practice process reference models produced by ITIL to be an excellent foundation for constructing process and systemic solutions for complex Information and Communications Technology (ICT) companies.

The Nexagent System is an abstraction layer for choreographing multiple domain requirements to deliver an enterprise multisourced ICT solution. Service provider's existing B/OSS is necessarily focused on the management demands of the existing single domain infrastructure. Since the solutions Nexagent enable are essentially multi-domain, we align with the ICT Infrastructure Management (ICTIM) book of ITIL, whereas the Service Management book is most closely aligned with single domain issues of an integrated B/OSS. This is the complementary aspect of the Nexagent System, as it broadens the reach of a single domain to deliver enterprise ICT solutions.

TeleManagement Forum (TMF)
The TeleManagement Forum (TM Forum) provides leadership, strategic guidance and practical solutions to improve the management and operation of information and communications services. Our open membership of more than 500 companies comprises incumbent and new-entrant service providers, computing and network equipment suppliers, software solution suppliers and customers of communications services. TM Forum has been contributing to the Information and Communications Services (ICS) Industry for over 15 years.

Nexagent, like many service providers, considers the TMF to be an authority in the telecommunications arena. We reference and align with the enhanced Telecom Operations Model (eTOM) and the current version six.

For more information on how Nexagent aligns with eTOM and participates in TMF bodies, please contact us at sales@nexagent.com.
