NEXAGENT LICENSES PROCESS AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR PRIVATE USE, ADDRESSING INCREASED COMPETITION IN GLOBAL IT AND TELECOMS MARKET

Automation enables Global Carriers, Systems Integrators and Virtual Network Operators to rapidly deliver global connectivity across multiple carrier partners with increased operational efficiency, reduced time-to-market and proactive end-to-end customer service management

London UK, November 15th, 2004 – Nexagent, the pioneer and world leader in process automation for delivering advanced IP services across multi-network environments, announced today that its groundbreaking technology will now be available under license for private use by global telecoms operators, systems integrators and virtual network operators. Enterprises demand global connectivity at lower costs, yet there is no single carrier with best quality and cost in all countries. By licensing Nexagent's technology, IT and telecom providers can deliver high quality, low cost global IP-VPN services by building a multi-carrier ‘private interconnect grid’ of private interconnect points which seamlessly link together their optimal mix of preferred carrier partners in each geography around the world.

Price competition has intensified and there’s a race on between the global providers of IT, telecoms and outsourcing. Winning means delivering enterprises flexible, global IT and communications solutions with better service and continually decreasing costs. To gain cost and service advantage, the leading ICT providers are offering to consolidate their customers’ applications and servers into shared, centralised data centres and provide access from their customers’ sites over an IP based wide area network, such as an MPLS-VPN – making the telecoms network more important than ever.

However, it’s now widely acknowledged that no single carrier has the best cost or quality in all countries, and customers often have their own regional carrier preferences – making multi-carrier solutions inevitable and optimal. The key question becomes, how do you design, implement and monitor 100s of customer VPNs, each connecting hundreds of sites, across tens of carriers - in a scalable, efficient, flexible way without dropping the ball? To achieve this, every ICT provider now faces the challenge of building complex manual network, process and software integration for each carrier partner they want to work with – all of which takes time – potentially years – and significant investment.

Nexagents unique technology is an off-the-shelf solution that enables service providers to eliminate manual network integration, have a single operational interface across all carrier partners, and automate key operational processes. By licensing Nexagent's technology, ICT providers can rapidly deliver high quality, low cost global IP-VPN services by building their own private interconnect grid of private interconnect points which seamlessly link together their optimal mix of preferred carriers partners in each country around the world.

By embedding Nexagent’s technology into their internal operations and systems, solution providers can rapidly drive profitable growth through;

  • Increased revenues - from being able to offer lower cost, customised, global multi-carrier IT and converged voice, video and data solutions.
  • Lower costs – from increasing productivity of operations through Nexagent’s automation, avoiding investment of time and money in proprietary in-house carrier integration, and migrating existing customers to a lower cost multi-carrier solution.
  • Flexibility and scalability – from Nexagent’s technology enabling a single procedural interface across any number of carrier partners, and automation of key processes.
  • Service differentiation – from proactive service management for each customer’s IP-VPN using Nexagent’s unique lifecycle management and monitoring software.
  • Reduced time to market – by using Nexagent’s technology instead of building a proprietary solution in-house, which could take 18 months or more, providers can gain competitive advantage.

Nexagent has invested over 3 years and $50m developing its patent pending technology. Nexagent’s porfolio comprises the following 5 key components:

  • Expertise and consultancy services – Nexagent offers unique expertise to its clients creating and managing multi-network environments and offers a comprehensive choice of consultancy projects to meet each and every prospective licensee’s needs.
  • End-to-end process model – Nexagent provides a client centric, process driven approach designed specifically for multi-carrier provisioning. This features an integrated, in-depth reference process model including: grid design, infrastructure set-up, carrier connection, SDIPs, implementation, monitoring and management processes. A VPN lifecycle process model  (design, implement and assure) that can be customised to a client’s unique environment.
  • Multi-carrier OSS/BSS Software – includes process maps; unified data model, and end-to-end lifecycle management software. Without software to automate key processes, it would be virtually impossible for global ICT providers to provide a scalable multi-carrier solution across all customers.
  • Scalable interconnect architecture – developed and continually evolved to be an open, scalable, resilient, standardised, secure interconnect architecture for shared, multi-lateral Layer 3 carrier interconnect. With fully defined operational rules and procedures, a value engineered implementation, a comprehensive support infrastructure and an ongoing development programme
  • Service Control Device (SCD) - The SCD is a component of an interconnect point, which is a combination of routers, switches and SCDs which form an end-to-end interconnect architecture. The SCD is based on specially configured, but standard, hardware components: the detailed functionality of the SCD however is provided by customised firmware and Nexagent ‘s specialised multi-carrier OSS software. The SCD currently contains two specialised embedded software components which enable carrier-to-carrier CoS mediation.

To date, Nexagent has used its technology to create a public ‘Network Interconnect Grid’ of carriers connected by Nexagent Interconnect Points and today announced a co-marketing program with 14 leading carriers. Global Carriers, Systems Integrators and Virtual Network Operators can now use Nexagent’s technology to build their own ‘private’ Interconnect Points in key cities worldwide, set up an automated global service management centre, and link their preferred carrier partners to rapidly create a private ‘Interconnect Grid’.

Charlie Muirhead, Founder and President, Nexagent, said: “It’s already clear that multi-carrier solutions are inevitable. With the broader use of new network services such as Wifi, WiMax, 3G, power-line communications and satellite, the number of carriers that global ICT providers will need to integrate is only set to increase. Efficient, automated multi-carrier partnerships will significantly enhance an ICT provider’s ability to drive profitable growth in today’s increasingly competitive market for global services.“
